Data connection monitoring – Day 14

Another 7 days have passed since my last set of data usage results.  We should now be at a position where we can build up a much better picture of what the average amount of data consumed by the HTC Hero on a monthly basis is likely to be.  Again, this week, I’ve streamed a little television from BeebPlayer (one episode of Harper’s Island if you want to get exact about it), but I’ve not been using Last.FM as much as I had last week.  Here are the data usage figures for the week from resetting the count on the afternoon of 17th September to today:-

Wi-Fi usage – 114MB

2G/3G usage – 21MB

Total             – 135MB
Giving a per-day average of 19.3MB

The previous readings were-

11th-17th September – 292MB (average of 48.7MB per day)
11th September – 13MB
10th September – 16MB

Total for period from 10th to 24th September – 456MB
Giving a per-day average of 32.6MB

So, if I were to continue my current data usage trends, I’d be looking at around 977MB per month!  Obviously, most of my data usage is coming through Wi-Fi connections, so it’s not going to dent my monthly 2G/3G allowance much, and I have been streaming music and video, but it does highlight just how much data you can chew through with the Hero.  Worth bearing in mind for Orange/Vodafone users.
