Ok, based on a comment from one of this blog’s followers, Chris, I thought I’d try a little experiment to see how much data I’m transferring on a day to day basis. I’ve done a bit of digging around the Android Marketplace and found an app called NetSentry which looks like it should do the job of logging my data usage.
I’m going to continue to use my phone as I have been (downloading apps from the marketplace, browsing the web, streaming radio, etc) to give as fair reflection as possible of what to expect with regards average data usage.
What did you find out? I am currently on one of Sprint’s old data pack plans and use somewhere between 700,000 to 900,000kb per month. I’m curious if the HTC Hero is way more than that.
Sprint told me that the amount of data usage is the main reason they require an everything plan with the Hero, not just an unlimited data pack.
How much data do you use on a typical month?
I noted my usage daily over the course of a week (if you do a search for data usage or data monitoring you should find them if you’re interested). I worked out I’d be averaging about 1Gb per month, but that was split between wi-fi and 3G. You can download apps to monitor your usage- I used one called NetSentry.
