Review: Advanced Task Killer Free

4 September 2009 One Comment

Prior to purchasing the HTC Hero, I’d done a bit of research on how other users were finding the experience, and one thing that kept getting mentioned was that it was best to get one of the task management apps that are out there so that you can close out any processes that may be hogging resources. So, when I received my shiny new phone, one of the first things I did was download just such an app. I downloaded Advanced Task Killer Free and I have to say it does the job for me.
Advanced Task Killer displays a list of all currently running applications on your phone. Each app has a tickbox where you can select or deselect it and up at the top is a nice big button saying “KILL selected apps“. It’s that simple – Select the apps you want to kill and deselect the apps you don’t want killed. Push the button and, hey presto, the apps are closed. If you want to just knock out one app in particular then pressing on the app for a couple of seconds opens up a menu where you are presented with the following options- Kill, Select/Unselect, Switch To and Ignore. Switch To opens the app up and Ignore removes the app from appearing in future lists generated by the software.
Having spent a bit of time on some of the Android forums out there, I found that most people use an app called Taskiller, so I thought I’d give it a try too, and, I have to say, although they seem to have exactly the same functionality, for me, Advanced Task Killer just edges it as it was slightly easier to use in my opinion.
