Still basking in the glory of scooping it’s Gadget of the Year award from Stuff Magazine, the HTC Hero has won another couple of accolades, this time from T3. The HTC Hero Android smartphone (a wildcard entry in the category) won Gadget of the Year, beating off competition from the iPhone 3GS, Palm Pre and the super-sexy Philips Cinema 21:9 television. From the magazine-
In a year of classic gadgets, this summed up all that was good in tech in 2009: digital social networks, which the Hero regularly updates you on; the transformation of the phone into an omni-competent browser/media player/comms device; the tactile triumph of the touchscreen; the emergence of cloud storage. That’s why it’s our Gadget of the Year.
It also scooped the Phone of the Year award, with T3 saying -
The Hero is a full featured, wonderfully usable, beautifully presented handset with a similarly lovely open source OS.
As well as success for the HTC Hero, the T3 awards also proved fruitful for Google as a whole with the company taking the Tech Brand of the Year award and the Android phone OS winning the Launch of the Year gong.
It’s good to see that Android is starting to get the recognition it deserves, with Gartner recently predicting that Android phones will overtake the iPhone to become the second most widely used phone OS by 2012, it looks as though Android is really starting to gain momentum in the battle to win the hearts and minds of the tech-savvy.
