Good news for DEXT owners – Motorola CEO Sanjay Jha has announced, at CES, that the Motorola CLIQ (or DEXT in the UK) and the new BACKFLIP will both receive an update to Android 2.1. Both handsets are currently running Android 1.5 at the moment. There’s been no confirmation on a timescale for the update’s release as yet.
In related news, the MOTOBLUR powered BACKFLIP (what is it with Motorola and naming all their phones IN BLOCK CAPITALS? Is the shift-lock key stuck or something? Geez, stop shouting. Please…) was formally introduced to the world by Motorola at CES. It looks like the phone will be available within the next couple of months. If you’d like to see more of the Backflip in action, check out Engadget’s hands on here.
Sanjay Jha had this to say on the BACKFLIP (I’m picturing him shouting every time he mentions MOTOBLUR or the phone’s name)-
“Since introducing our first MOTOBLUR-based device, we’ve remained focused on differentiating the Android experience and bringing it to new carrier partners around the globe, BACKFLIP maximizes the multi-tasking and multi-functional potential of MOTOBLUR with its unique design elements, making it as smart as it is social.â€
