Further Android 2.1 for HTC Hero information released

We reported a couple of weeks back that there were rumours that the HTC Hero should have Android 2.1 at some point in March. It’s now looking a lot less like a rumour it seems. Engadget have reported that they have received some PR from HTC’s Benelux team that the Hero Android 2.1 update should be released mid-March. It will come with HTC’s acclaimed Sense UI and a new widget called Friend Stream which will pull social updates from your friends across all of the common social networking services you use, so pretty much an HTC version of MOTOBLUR.

Good to see that the Hero will finally be catching up with the big boys in the Android world (well, in terms of OS version at least). Coming hot on the heels of the announcement that Adobe Flash 10.1 will only be available for version 2.1 or higher of Android, this is great news. Hang on in there Hero owners, not too long to wait for 2.1 now…

UPDATE – Here’s a video of Sense 2.1 in action:-
