T-Mobile, Vodafone, O2 and Orange to sell HTC Desire from March 26th

16 February 2010 4 Comments

Just a few hours after the phone was officially unveiled, the HTC Desire now has a home amongst the UK carriers.  T-Mobile, Vodafone and Orange have all announced they will be offering the HTC Sense-ified version of the Nexus One from March 26th.

Promotional material for the phone is also starting to materialise with a suitably flashy official site and a demo video (see below) appearing earlier today.

UPDATE- O2 have also announced they will be carrying the phone from April.

The Desire is shaping up to be a great phone, and with HTC’s Android 2.1 version of Sense plus Flash 10.1 compatibility, it’s essentially just a slightly improved version the Nexus One.  The only other major change of note from the Nexus One is that the Desire uses an optical pad rather than a trackball.  It remains to be seen whether this is a change for the better or not.

I’m really lovin’ this HTC phone. As i’ve been using my G1 for the last 18 months i’m up for an upgrade. I’ve been hanging on for the iphone 4G but now i’ve seen that this phone is coming to tmobile uk i might be getting my upgrade sooner than i thought.

The reason i wanted the iphone was for the games and apps that seem to blow away all android apps.
That in my eyes is what lets the Android OS down….. poor apps!!
    would you agree?

I kinda see what you’re getting at, but, whilst there are undeniably more apps available for the iPhone, I’m not sure that apps let the Android OS down. There are a lot of great apps out there on the Android Market that are as good or better than their iPhone versions, or are just plain not available for the iPhone. However, I would say that Android is arguably let down by poor quality games, but even then there are some real gems in the Market and there are developers out there who are starting to create some pretty exciting titles. With more powerful Android phones such as the Nexus One, Droid/Milestone and the Desire becoming more popular, I suspect that even the games will catch up with the iPhone soon.
